Hey Levis, you have yourself one good break mate,at least the weather will be an improvement on all the stuff you have been getting recently, the last time i was in New Zealand (1957) the pubs closed doors at 6.oopm but as a way round the law you just had to sign in as a hotel guest which meant you could just keep on slopping it down until whenever, which as an eighteen year old merchant seaman i used to take full advantage of ;D,if your passing over W Aussie on your way back just drop in you will be made very welcome by the Simmo's, All the best wishes to you & the family for the new year, ours being around 8 or 9 hours ahead of UK time is in already & we are just getting mobile after a hectic but great night,

Hi Levi, I hope you will all have a great time. Is it about 2 or 3 years since your last visit? I'm sure the climate will be so nice you won't want to leave. All the best to you and yours. Cheers Lyn

i used to live at 139 Tamaki Drive ,Mission Bay in Auckland right on top of the cliff overlooking the sea, with Rangitoto island smack in front!! just before you turn the peninsular to enter St heliers bay.beautiful place!! there was only 5 bungalows there then, used to go to a school just about 1/2 a mile away!! i can remember the last flying boat ,landing in the harbour!!!..............Steve

Many years ago we lived in Miarangi Bay could see he sun going into the bowl of the volcano on Rangitoto. Mission Bay millionair's row now. Was the flying boat a Catalina ? If so I think it was used during the war in New Guinea.

Hi Steve, another of my memories of Auckland, were back in the late fifties,as i mentioned in a previous post i was serving on deck in the UK Merchant Navy & i can vividly remember going into Auckland harbour on the merchant cargo ship "Port Lincoln"which was part of the Port Line Shipping Co.it was around 6000 tonnes & it used to be a 6 month trip starting from KGV Docks in London then direct to NZ via the Panama Canal,we would do the NZ coast loading up with frozen meat, butter etc then continue on over to the East coast of Australia (which gave me the incentive to emigrate here in later years) to pickup more of the same returning back to the UK via the Suez Canal, all of this for a paltry eleven UK pounds a month, the reason i mentioned Auckland harbour was that on this particular trip i remember seeing the final span of a very long bridge in the harbour area being floated out & lifted into position, i took some pics (in black & white of course) of this which was a big occasion in Auckland at that time, just thought i would add a little more interest on the New Zealand postings, Best Wishes to all ,Ole Simmo
