What prog are you using for editing your midis Pat? The reason I ask is that this can be done quite easy with mp3's in most sequencers ........regards Barry

Hi Simmo, thanks for that kind offer, but as I have several hundred tracks I need adjusting in this way it may not be too feasible But thanks for the offer all the same. Hi Barry, I use GNMIDI to adjust my MIDIS, which will give me count-ins for MIDIS which I can transfer to MP3s; however with tracks that are originally MP3 I have no way of doing this. The programs I have for adjusting MP3s, changing tempo, keys, etc is Audacity. Now, with Audacity I can copy a count-in from a track that has one and copy this to the beginning of one that doesn't, but this takes this old fellow forever, hence the need for something more practicable.

Hi Pat,
An interesting conundrum. I think the way I'd do it is very similar to the way you are already doing it. That is, create a count-in in the right tempo using a MIDI sequencer, and record it to wav, then convert it to mp3. Then use some mp3 utility to paste the two together, removing any silence at the start of the existing track, to make sure it's right on the beat.
I think I'd try to avoid converting back to wav then back to mp3 again (which is what Audacity does, doesn't it?) just because it will degrade the new mp3 sound slightly more. I'll do some research and see it I can come up with another utility that allows you to work in the mp3 domain.
Sadly I don't think there are any shortcuts here. At least not that I know of. Now somebody else may differ of course.

Just checking out that prog Audacity not really familiar with it ......but in this prog you could create a click track for the intro if that would be suitable for you the only prob here is you'd need to slide the audio track(s) up a measure but can't really see a way to do this. ....I do know this can be achieved in Powertrax you can insert an mp3/wave insert a blank measure at the beginning of the song then go to a midi track and add a count in there then export both the midi track and audio as a mp3 file......if your still having no luck with anything else Pat drop me a pm with your addy and I can arrange to get you a copy of PT .....Cheerz Barry

John, that's seems the only way I have come up with so far that does the job....and it does work, but is so tedious Barry, you will be hearing from me pronto ;d

Interesting subject Pat, I've got exactly the same problem with some of my MP3 tracks sometimes it's really hard to start in the right place or get the right key, in the ones with out a count in or intro. Someone mentioned the Powertrax software to me once, but it was all a bit over my head at the time, I think it what I may need too. Does it work with Cakewalk or is it a separate programmer Barry.

Hi Jacqui.. .......well Powertrax is a different but similar midi/audio sequencer to Cakewalk.....the reason I mentioned PT in this instance is because as far as I know mp3's and wave files can be loaded into PT but just wave files loaded into CW ...so to insert a count in or other sound if you like in Cakewalk you'd need firstly to convert your mp3 file to wave then load ....hope your following me so far....... then once youve loaded your song and got your count in sorted on a midi track you can then export the finished product i.e. midi and audio tracks to mp3....so Jacqui it can also be done in CW just a little more work attatched to it........gimme a shout if you need any help........Cheerz Barry

Hi Pat, If I understand correctly, you have mp3 backing tracks which you want to add a 1 measure 'count in' at the beginning of the track. If I wanted to do this I would import the mp3 into a sequencer program (in my case GarageBand) and it would appear in complete form as an audio track. Next select this track and drag it one measure to the right of start-point and then create new audio track to record one measure of drum beats from your keyboard say and then save the complete track as a new mp3 with the added drum 'count in' at the start of your edited backing track. If you want to do this to a lot of backing tracks then the recorded 'count ins' could be made as saved loops of one measure to the required number of beats to the count in and just dropped into the new edit track as required. Best regards ... Rainbow:)

Guys, have you thought about using an intro instead of count ins. After watching a few acts around here it is suprising how the click ins stand out, especially the Band In The Box ones.
