Hello again, think i posted this in the wrong section..Anyway!
I have a dynacord powermate mixing desk and i was wondering about using the Graphic EQ..some say it should be set like a "smiley face" I've heard others say it should be the opposite "Frown" to enhance the brightness of the vocals..any help would be appreciated...Thanks.

Hi John As each venue have diff shapes sizes and acoustics half empty half full etc I usually start off with a flat eq and tinker about before I start and sometimes I can end up with a smile depending . Here's an interesting read on the subject Rgds Barry en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smiley_face_curve

No 2 venues are the same, there are some where you have to cut the bass and increase the treble and some the other way round. What sounds good at the front may sound very boomy at the back. There is one venue that I play at regularly that sounds fine at the front, but at the back of the hall the bass is very pronounced, so I have to cut the bass and go for the centre ground.
Some venues dont even offer the luxury of a sound check, its just plug in and play and hope for the best.
I find that well sound proofed venues can afford a lift in the bass and treble (smiley face), or vast empty cavernous halls boost the mid eq (frowning face). This is however a rough guide. Treat each venue on its own merits.
