digitech.com/en/products/live-3Hi Guys Has anyone ever used one of these vocal effects processers? someone lent me one recently and I was trying to work out if you can get harmony effects to work without using it with a guitar and just with a microphone plugged in, I have read through the manual but it refers to using the guitar all the time, also online demos on utube seem to have guitar connected to work it, just wondered if anyone has one or has used one before. Thanks Jacqui

Hi Jacqui, Ive been using a Digitech harmoniser for about twenty five years and I think it's brilliant, but you have to play chords into it with a guitar or as I do with a keyboard. There are very good ones about now that you can just sing into but they are a bit pricey.Mine cost a thousand pounds and another hundred for the footswitch. If you do a lot of songs that need harmony it's worth the money.Mine is called Digitec Vocalist,it has about three hundred different settings but I just use two or three piece harmonies but playing the right chords in is important. Geordie I use mine in note mode.Takes a bit of time to do but it is well worth it.Eg try singing I'LL Cry Instead or Brown Eyed Girl in cord mode You can do it iin cakewalk piano scroll using the mouse to insert note and drag gatetimes.

I'm with Frank on this one...Note mode for me seems to work the best, since I can choose myself which harmonies I want simply by being able to pick and play those specific notes on the keyboard, sequencing that as a midi track means I only have to do it once to have the harmonies come in and out as the song progresses. But I know many a guitar player who with assistance of a footswitch program changes in harmonies in other modes on their harmonizers beforehand for each song, and use it that way, changing the format(how many high harmonies or low harmonies in that particular patch)and changing with each press of the footswitch.
Take Care
Mike

Whew you've lost me here lads, I don't play guitar or keyboard, so that's not an option for me, so can I actually use it just to sing through, if I had a backing track playing? would it pick up the chords from the guitar on the backing track.
Note Mode, I don't see that in the book, how do you set that? can I use it on the pc, or is it more for live use?
What I wanted to do is somehow record some backing vocals onto an mp3 backing track that was recorded from a midi on the pc somehow, so I then I'd have the track with the backing Vocals already on it to use out when I'm singing.[/font]

Hi Jacqui, The Boss VE 20 does harmonies with no instrument plugged in. There's a few tutorials on you tube. Hope this helps

Thanks Eddie I will look at that online,
Frank so are you saying you put the part harmony into the midi file itself, not sing it with the digitec.
Also can you plug the digitec processer into a pc to use, or only with a mixer/pa

Also can you plug the digitec processer into a pc to use, or only with a mixer/pa You set the harmony notes up written on the midi file with all the commands eg harmony gender, mike on/off volume etc. This controls the digitec as the midi file plays thru the digitec and your sound module,or have it played via midi out on the PC. digitech.com/en/products/vocalist-vr

Hi Jacqui,i'm a bit late on this post but I was in the same confused position as you until recently. In Dec 31st I was supporting a solo guitarist/singer at a New Year bash and using his setup and I remarked how good his vocal setup was whilst rehearsing and it was a Boss ve20.He demonstrated several things that it could do including looping, harmonising, pitch correction as well as built in programmes. The night went so well that I went out and bought one off the net for around £120 and absolutely love it,You don't need to play an instrument so this would be ideal for you and as Eddie says there are stacks of demos and tutorials on Youtube

Boss ve20. That sounds interesting will look that up online, just had a quick look can't see one for less than £180ish but will search further, out of interest can that be used with a pc, if you wanted to record backing vocals?
ok frankie Thanks I will look into the midi note section on that manual.

I just tried it again, if I type in midi I get results, or type note but nothing when I put in midi note for some reason, I think your model has a usb connection, I don't think the live 3 has that feature.
