My Roland JV1080 after giving me great service for over 10 years ,has stopped working. So i'm thinking on buying a new sound module to mix midifiles with. Does anyone have any advice on which one to buy.? I'm open to any suggestions. I have a Yamaha Tyros 1 which i'm using at the moment,(only as a midi player) but not being a keyboard player, i find it difficult to get to grips with. Looking for something a bit more portable and really just a plug and play device.
Thanks for any input
Eddie

Hey Eddie,
I used to use on pretty much every gig for several years a Roland XV-5050 sound module using a Korg keyboard as a controller. I used it for all my sequences. Since I bought my Roland Fantom G 61 key keyboard,I use all sounds from that board,in addition to using it's onboard sequencer and sampler. Sounds are pretty good on the XV-5050,64 voices, and compatible with GM2 sounds as well.
Being that you used a JV sound set from Roland and seemed to like it,I'm going to bet that you will be happy with what you hear from the XV-5050...It is outdated of course, many years ago,so I'm sure you can find one really cheap on ebay or other means.
Take Care...
Mike

Thanks Mike. I'll have a look at the 5050. In the meantime i sent an e-mail to Roland tech support and it may be a driver problem, so we'll wait and see. I'll keep you posted Regards Eddie

The "midi message" light is not coming on, Frank. Checked all leads , changed all leads. Midi message is going to the interface but the roland is not seeing it.

My mate's coming round with his module so we can find out where the fault lies. I've got an old interface somewhere so i'll give that a try as well Thanks Frank Eddie

I am a drummer first, and I love the rich sounds of Steinberg Hypersonic 2. I have had people kind of laughing at me for liking this, and call it outdated, but their response is in itself a joke to me. I mean does good sound and versatility in a good midi sound source really go out of date? I don't think so. It's more about the creativity of the user in my opinion, and this one I would recommend. I am also a huge fan of Kontakt (from Native Instruments). It has huge support for high end libraries, and if you had the basic Kontakt Library you would have access to high end sounds for use with MIDI triggering. Something to think about.

Thanks for your input, Kooper, much appreciated. Turned out the problem was with the interface and not the module so everything is ok at the moment
