When I joined this forum 1 1/2 years ago I had never been involved in any forums at all and joined with a certain amount of trepidation. To date this is still the only forum I am a member of and it is only now that I can see what a friendly bunch everyone is. It was this trepidation that led me to refer to myself as Oliver101, not wanting to reveal my real name as I did not want anyone and everyone knowing my business. So I apologise to everyone who thought my name was Oliver, but it is infact Ian. Some on the forum know this allready. You are all a great bunch of helpful people. I was just trying to protect my identity just in case there were unscrupulous people prepared to miss-use my details. Ian ( Formally known as Oliver101 ) Now coming out of the closet. lol Hi Ian. No need to apologise Protecting one’s identity is an unfortunate but necessary route to go down from time to time. I too have done this occasionally on various other fora (forums) when getting to grips with the members and the admin; some places are simply poorly moderated and the membership poorly behaved, but happily we have none of that here at the Midi hangout One thing I feel I need to make clear and that is if a member wishes to remain anonymous they are perfectly entitled to do so providing they basically haven’t just register with us simply for the sake of causing trouble and thought they could do so while hiding behind the cloak of anonymity, for example. But as I say, and others have said it too, we have great members here and that's the way we like it

I have never hidden my identity on the web. I have been accused of that by two people in the past though! Hiding the e-mail address was to keep the spam down. I hate spam filters. I refuse to use them. Due to one, provided by my ISP, I lost some important e-mail. Fortunately for me, I'm not getting near the amount I was at one time. Most spam that comes to my juno address is thanks to good old MIDIMart and the addy Glenn provided to me, put up on his site, and forwarded e-mail to that address to my juno account, which, by the way, still works.
If I put my e-mail address up on a public forum I do it as such: oneqtcat (at) juno (dot) com or oneqtcatxx@juno.com, then mention to remove the X's. That keeps the spiders from harvesting my address. Unfortunatly the option of writing an e-mail address in that way is not available in our profiles here.

Well, maybe once bitten twice shy, but I still am very careful not to divulge my e-mail address, or anything else for that matter, on newsgroups. Regular forums I tend to be a little less guarded.
I also use a little program that I downloaded ages ago called magic.exe. It allows you to view just the headers in a regular e-mail account, i.e. one you normally access via Outlook, and to 'quick delete' the ones you don't want. Highlight all the ones you don't want with Ctrl + click then hit the quick delete icon. Very useful for wiping spam at a stroke. JohnG.

Ah, that explains why you never reply to me JohnG - you'va already figured out it'd be spam!!!! (LOL). Warren

Whoops!
Was there one I missed Warren, or was it a leg pull?
I do try to answer direct e-mails (and actually no-one here has my main ISP e-mail address, just my usual Yahoo one, and I can't use Magic on that). I don't think I marked any of yours as spam in my Yahoo account, Warren.
I am a bit tardy at the moment doing anything MIDI oriented on the web. Re-writing my "Musik Machen mit MIDI" course has me busy, as do a number of other things that have come my way of late. Also trying to use East West Quantum Leap Orchestral Symphony Orchestra (EWQLSO for short) VSTi, orchestrating a piece of Dvorak, has taken up most of my spare time.
Oh well! JohnG.
