Just a bit of a note to say what great people are on here Always willing to help out
Several years ago I went to quiet a bit of trouble to help out a guy He wanted to be able to make backing tracks I introduced him to band in a box
Drove 30 miles to his house Set it up on his computer And began teaching him how to use it
Next thing I knew he had me talked into making his tracks for him, playing the fool saying he didnt understand blah blah
Anyway to make a long story short after about the tenth time of driving the 30 miles each way to help him out and make more and more tracks for him (I think I made about 35 very gigable tracks for him) I stumbled over a folder in his computer which appeared to have about a gazzilion midis in it..... He played the fool trying to tell me he didn't know they were there
I asked him if he would mind if I trawled through them to see if any were of songs I might like myself....,,.. But no the mean shi..,, made all sorts of excuses about how he hadn't time and could I come back another day etc etc Never once did he offer a cup of tea nor something for petrol for driving to his house not that I wanted anything from him
Several years before I had taught him to play guitar He now thinks he is Gods gift to music
Well the long and the short of it is that after that I began to lose faith in humanity some people are just mean shi...sters
But you know what folks I was wrong Having interacted with some of the great people on here my faith is restored
Thank you to all
Regards
Vincent

what a great story Vincent, and one I'm sure that quite a lot of us can identify with and not only in the music business, but you are right when you say that this site and the great people within it have restored your faith.I personally found great strength last year from the good wishes and kind messages that I received when my health issues had me at a low ebb.We truly have some great people in MH My tuppence worth Bigmike

Hi Vince As Mike says a lot of us can relate to people like that users and abusers all around us . Had a similar experience won't go into the ins and outs but basically showed someone the idea of a project I was working on and before I knew it they had set up a small business doing exactly that. I suppose humans will be humans and there's good and bad in everyone but although I've been stung a few times in the past I still believe they're are good honest and helpful people out there willing to give and share their knowledge with others. Here at Midihangout I agree with Vince they are a great bunch of guys who will got that extra mile to help each other out and unlike some sites I know won't ever be arrogant make fun and ridicule others who maybe just starting out so in that respect I think here at MH we're a rare breed . So after our own fair share of problems in the past long may we continue to grow share our music and continue helping each other . Rgds Barry

Hi Vincent, what an interesting post you submitted Re, being used up by people, I am sure many of the forum members have at some stage found that this has happened to them in one way or another which is a great shame, there is no telling with human nature being what it is. My personal view ( and is is probably the view a lot of the forum members will relate to ) leans towards helping out anyone who is seeking a bit of advice and assistance when it comes to midi and all of the problems that face a "newby" when trying to understand how it all works. I myself when becoming a new member of the forum ( as it was then) several years ago who had not one notion of how it all worked, I had been given an early version of cakewalk & after about 18 months of playing around on my first ever computer I had to admit defeat, I was unable to do a single function on it so I had just about given up when I discovered the forum which was then known as a different identity, from the moment I made contact with the forum as it was then I had all of the assistance I could wish for. Now just a few years later with most of the original members from the old forum and now with the present forum I have been able to get to a point where I am playing out several times a week to age care facilitys with backing tracks custom made by myself, a feat which without the assistance of the forum members would not have been possible. I consider the present members of the forum to be the most helpful and trustworthy group of folks you would ever come across and to whom I certainly owe a big debt of gratitude for all of the unselfish assistance that they have given me over the past years. Four years ago I had the great pleasure of meeting up with several of the crew when my lovely wife of 52 years Patricia and myself came across to the UK for a visit, it certainly was one of the highlights of our visit, we are currently planning a visit next year, all being well. I have had a similar experience like Vincent had when I was selling a guitar a few years ago, the buyer arranged to have a look at and on arriving at our home he agreed to do a deal on the guitar, while talking over music stuff and backing tracks etc he showed an interest in midifiles, at that time I was struggling a bit with the tech side of things and being very computer wise this fella offered to show me how to resolve a problem I was having to do with using memory sticks. The result was he finished up giving it a test run with a memory stick he had brought with him and finished up downloading a lot of my folders which had heaps of midis in, I half suspected it at the time but didn't really realise what had happened until after he had left. The moral of this little saga had a strange twist to it several years later when I spotted this same fella's name...and guess what he was running for W Australian parliament and in fact is now actually in the cabinet. Moral to the story is ,,,never trust a "polly"...Simmo
