Has any one got or ever used this software for midi files?

I had it on my old computer, (Windows XP), Jacqui, but it doesn't work with windows 7, (like a lot of music software!). From what I recall, it was pretty easy to use & good results. I used it to make some recordings, but you need a little patience to get the sound write, (I think I was a little impatient, lol). Also, my old computer was a desktop with a DB50XG daughterboard fitted, so I'm not sure if it would work with sound fonts or VST's, maybe John G would be able to help, if he's familiar with the program.

Thanks Guys I downloaded it on Jazzcats recommendation, but can't get certain things to work, ie, changing an instrument and getting it to stay changed, but oddly enough I got a few files to play in it that were not playing OK in sonar, so thought it was worth having a look at, but not finding much help with in on the web. I'm using it on xp so that's not a problem. I might look at Acoustica Mixcraft 5 or 6, I alos like the xg works one John and Gerry use but can't use it on my pc that has the creative card, seems to need the xg card to use the software.

Not sure about this one, it worked with Win95

There are times that I really miss my old desktop PC. It had XP pro, an XG daughterboard, good old Cakewalk 3 for editing, & Record Producer for mixing midi & audio....oh, and Roland VSC for better guitar sounds on non-XG files.

I explained why that is happening, Jacqui, and how to 'fix' it. I included screen shots as well. Again, you have to go into the event list view because that is where the program changes are occurring. You can't do it from the track view.
Make sure you have the correct track showing in the view. In the very left column in the event list it tells you what the event is. You will see thinks lists like 'Patch Change" "Controller" "Note". You want "Patch Change"
I'm going to add a step I didn't tell you before to try to make the event list view a little less confusing.
Open the event list and look for a button called 'Filter'. Click it. You will see a list of items with boxes next to them that have check marks in them. Uncheck every box EXCEPT the one called "Show Patch Changes" Then click 'OK'.
Now the only thing you will see in the event list will be the patch change. Highlight it by clicking on it, then find the button called 'Change' and click it.
A new box will appear. Ignore everything in the box except the name of the patch. That is under the word 'parameters'.
There is a small grey box next to the patch name. click on it and your patch list for the SD2 should appear. notice that the patches are in groups. Pianos, Chromatic Percussion, Organs etc. To the left of each one is an icon The one by the word 'Pianos' is an icon shaped like looking at a grand piano from the top. To the left of those icons are boxes with a + sign.
If you are looking to change a base patch then go to the box and click on the plus sign next to the bass. Now the patches will show. The icons next to the patches look like a phono plug. When you see those icons you are now looking at the bass patches.
Click on the one you want. It will highlight, and you will hear a demo note play of that instrument. Now click OK, and it will change to that instrument.
Make sure you go back to the 'filter button and recheck everything, or next time you go to the event list all you will see is patch changes.

Ziggy, I can't believe you used Record Producer for audio. It was really awful any time you saved the audio got progressively worse.
The only time I have used the audio was to import a song I wanted to sequence so I wouldn't have to jump to another program to listen to the song.

Bad phrasing on my part, Jazz. I should have said "to add vocal" to midi.

Thanks Cat, I wondered what happened to you after I sent my last email with all the pictures, but I will try that and see if I can get the patches sorted, still got the trial software problem as it's still counting down and I'm down to 12 days left now, although as I said I only installed the one you sent me and followed your instructions to activate it, so I don't know why I have the trial version. Just hope when I sort the instruments out, I don't lose the software in 12 days! Jacqui

You will lose the program. Did I send you the unzipped .exe file? Your machine is XP , right? It should have worked. I don't know why it didn't.
As for replying to the mass of stuff you sent me; Well, there was too darned much at once. To many screen shots for me to have to save and keep track of. I'm on web mail which makes it a royal PITA to switch back and forth between an email I am writing and one I'm reading, plus having to go to the folder where I saved the screen shots.
To top it off, the d@mned webmail often times out when I'm writing an email, and makes me sign in again. When that happens I just lost everything I'd written and have to start from scratch. Things are much different for me since my regular computer took a dump over 2 years ago!

BTW, everything you want to do is also easily done in your Cakewalk program. You can get help from the many cakewalk users here I'm sure. I always revert back to the one program I know well. It's quick and easy for me, and much easier for me to be able to explain the how tos using it. All of the sequencing programs can do the things you want to do. Its just that their menus and ways of showing you the info in a file differ slightly... or a lot LOL!

Hi Cat,
As a little tip, try using Wordpad or Notepad to write your emails in, then select all (Ctrl+A) then copy (Ctrl+C) then paste into the web mail (Ctrl+V). I often use that when the link is unreliable or the server logs you off automatically after a little while. I use it for writing all my little articles. It's also useful for saving them.
Hope things are okay with you? Kind regards, JohnG

Hi Cat Yes it was the zipped file you sent me, and the trial has run out, unless I have a code to try it won't open now, so can't really continue much further on that one, I'll go back to cakewalk and see how I get on, I'm not sure I have the patch definitions set up correct though as I still have the same problem with Cakewalk, when I change the instrument it won't stay once I play from the start of the track it goes back to the original instrument sound.
