I've played in bands & duo's for more than 25 years, then 2 years ago I said that's it I'm giving giging away and I haven't done a gig since. I must admit I do miss it but I have a music room at home and I am always doing new midi files and setting up my P.A. and entertaining myself...it beats getting home after a gig at 2.30am but the money isn't as good.

Steve move to the Gold Coast and we can do a duo plenty of potential for early evening and afternoon gigs here.

My Dad is still playing in a brass band at the age of 73, and he says he still enjoys every minute of it. My dear Grandad taught the trumpet right up until a fortnight before he died at the age of 76. If music is in your blood its there until your last breath, long may we all continue to play/make/produce/enjoy music for as long as we can. ( Just wish I could understand my eldest boys musical taste though. I cant stand or understand Rap ).

WOW !!!!!! My best'est' wishes and greetings to your dear Dad ! We wish him many more years of music and cheer ! Yes Ian, the last breath will be to music for all of us I'm sure !! Talking of RAP, Ian .... take a little time off to really LISTEN to the words and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the sense it makes and the talent of those rapping it out. Its not easy at all and only the talented can do that. Just put on them headphones and listen. This doesnt mean all RAP is good. NO, some RAP is Crap !!! Ok, I'm sorry but we wont dilute the original subject matter .... retirement or lets say non retirement !! Its heartening to hear so many say ...... "NO WAY " to the thought of retiring ..... YEAH YEAH YEAH !!!

I am in the music craic since 1976! Still at it These days I am gigging with my son Sean, Sean is a fine bass player and a fine singer. Do musicians retire? Maybe those who can afford to do actually retire. But if it's in your blood and you still get a buzz from playing in front of a crowd you will continue regardless. A musician dies and goes to Heaven. He asks St Peter where is the nearest pub. St. peter says, but we don't serve alcohol here in Heaven. Who needs alcohol? Came the reply. I want to gig!

Don't tempt me frankie, may be there might be some gigs around here, there should be plenty of muso's looking to do duo's / trios which don't require 1 or 2am finishes, although most of the gigs that we had were 12 & 1am finishes. It sounds that the Gold Coast keeps respectable working hours. Our clubs down here make the bands finish late but all the patrons start leaving at 11pm, doesn't make any sense to me.

There are also late gigs at the casinos here.

Hi Shyam, just to continue my post yesterday when i was busy!! busy!! getting ready to go busking, well the weather held up,fine & sunny for the time i was there,i played from around 9.30am- 1.30 pm,it was a little slow starting with only a few folks around so i sat & had a chat with one of the stallhoders who is a regular in this mall,i had all of my gear set up ready to go & it was just a matter of waiting until the folks started to flow through,i play in the mall directly opposite the main entrance to the shopping centre & just to the left is a large coffee house (Dome)where there is some tables outside under the verandah,Dome coffee houses are big in W Aussie, probably in the eastern states as well (Frankie's territory).once the folks started to appear i kicked off,i was happy with the sound, guitar & vocals through my Roland ac33 acoustic amp & my backing tracks through my Bose dock station which is connected by an audio cable to my latest addition a "sony dvd player" which has a memory stick with all of my backing tracks on,i find that this is a big improvement on playing my backing through the ipod which used to sit on the Bose dock station, firstly there is no loss in the quality of the sound & secondly i found that having to turn around & try to read the songs off of the small screen of the ipod when changing tracks using the remote was quite difficult (Simmo's eyes have seen better days),so now i have the dvd player sitting in front of me next to my music stand & it is so easy to read & change tracks quickly with the remote,i can scroll through from track 1 to track 80 very quickly,i have been fine tuning my busking rig since i started about 6 months ago & i think i have just about got it as i want it,the other thing is everything is battery powered,i will see if i can get a couple of pics for the forum of the "Ole Fella" in action, anyway it was a good session, had a few coffee breaks to chat to many of my new found friends & then packed up & headed for home feeling just a tad knackered but very satisfied with my performance, the upside is the guitar case was a little heavier than when i started & of course the little lady always makes a fuss of me when i arrive home, usually offering to carry the case for me, ;D Best wishes to all...Simmo

I can see you're really enjoying your busking, simmo and I'm soooooooooo happy for you ! Your description of the venue where you busk is alike to the malls over here in Bangalore., but the musicians who play here at times, are actually paid for it , though the tips do come in sometimes. About five years ago, my partner and I played at the Food Court on the top floor of a mall and it was quite interesting having listeners around you, enjoying their snacks while listening to theor requests . We got paid. Try and post in a pic of yourself busking at the mall .- I'm sure all of us would love to see you in action Keep the music going and enjoy yourself simmo . Cheers !

i have never heard alcohol called satan's urine i dont see any harm having a drink as long as you take it moderation i have had some good times in pubs over the years drinking and gigging a would not call them hell well not all of them Brian I guess if you want to be politically correct you might say "Satan's brew" I have nothing against alcohol, as most here know, but I do have something strongly against any idiot that abuses it. In moderation it is perfectly acceptable and can help many come out of their shell, loosen up and enjoy themselves. But in the hands of your typical larger lout it can be deadly. Anyway, let's not bring this wonderful topic off, well, topic. But this might be a good talking point's issue. Where's Shyam! ;D
