PC Drum Machine

Does anyone know if there is a way to use Cakewalk as just a drum machine, I have a friend would like to try and make some tracks with Drum and guitar, he used to have an Alessis SR16 Drum machine, but I said I'd check out drums on a PC before he purchased a drum machine again.

I read on line people have done it, but I can't find it in mine, so maybe it's only certain versions, if not had anyone tried any free computer drums

I assume you would make a midi file and only use track 10 and loop it.
