After getting my degree in Art and Design at Jordonstown..my first job was with a printing company in Lurgan..I was put in charge of the compositing of two papers...The Church Of Ireland Gazzette..and The Republican News...NOW I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT I HAVE NO PARAMILITARY CONNECTIONS...NOR DO I PREACH FOR THE CHURCH OF IRELAND...lolol..it was a job back then.....I stayed there until one day the company was raided by the Police and Army and the owners and myself were arrested....(it's funny looking back at it now though)...ALL CHARGES WERE DROPPED THOUGH...it's is actually mentioned in Gerry adams book...'Before The Dawn'.....As word got out and the company started to lose more and more work so some staff had to go..and because C of Ire Gaz terminated their paper...I was 1st to go............ironicly I joined the Civil Service designing some of the leaflets and booklets that they used......After 6 years there, I met a guy who owned 4 fast food carryouts and as my wife and I were living just outside Belfast I joined a partnership with him.....THE GUYS FROM BELFAST MAY KNOW OF A PLACE MANY YEARS AGO CALLED ''BURGER SAMS''..it was beside A1 Taxis on York Street...we later opened another 6 outlets around the North of Ireland...He then wanted to go abroad and buy a pub...so we sold all the outlets and I got my share..at around this time my wife got promoted in her job and was moved to Coleraine ( where we still live ) and with the money that I got from my shares we bought our home and I moved into the Flooring Business...which I have been doing now for the last 16 years...although things are drying up a bit.....so nothing much exciting as you can see....just keeping the head down and the chin up.

Hey Weegeo, brilliant idea mate its so interesting following everybodys career history,i will definitely be taking part, the trouble is with Ole Simmo is picking a good day when i can recall all of the details of my somewhat mixed work history which spans 55 years covering obscure moments when i found myself doing stuff like assisting a grave digger in Somerset to trucking kangaroo carcasses in the outback of W Aussie over 1000 miles in a truck with no refridgeration,so bear with me & all will be revealed ;D ;D,Simmo

Hi Tubbs...I could never have done it without the support of my wife...whenever I questioned my own mind, she was the one who told me to 'go for it'...it wasn't all roses, we had to fight a court case with my brother, who was redundant at the time we had the fast food outlets, and I had given him the job of managing one of them.....but he was caught with his fingers in the till and had to go..HE filed the complaint of unfair dismissal.....it has split our family up since then....it's stressful at family events....I don't hold any grudge towards him..but it's uncomfortable.

Yeah, it can be hard working with family Kev..especially when something like this happens, and after you giving him a job...you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Hi all
I left school and fell into sales. I sold furniture, then kitchens and bathrooms at David Covers in Chichester. I played guitar at the local folk club for pleasure. I also sold carpets and furniture at Allied Carpets, Courts Furnishing, Reynolds ( Bognor Regis) Sand cement and windows Arundel Builders and Magnet and Southern. Loads of jobs. Best time was when I went singing for 6 years self employed. Now selling Ford Trucks and cars in Alberta Canada.( not the best thing to be in at the moment.) Thats about it. Still singing when I can!

Might as well throw my twopennyworth in. I graduated in chemistry (Leeds) back in early seventies and have worked in the chemicals industry more or less ever since, mainly in sales. Past 23 years have been working for myself in and around industrial water treatment. I was into music and groups in mid sixties then went to uni and gave it all up for 30-odd years. Got back into it again about 6 years ago. But well well, what a surprise Pat! My passion between the music years from 1969 to just a few years ago was karate - Shotokan - I am sure you've heard of it - the genuine JKA stuff. Made Godan (5th Dan to those not versed) some 15 years ago. Trained, faught and taught all over the place but retired now as not much action where I live. Just work out in the gym these days. Cheers all...Ken
